Plant Manager
Major Tier 1 construction group with nationwide operations and one of the largest plant & fleet portfolios in the industry is seeking an ambitious Plant Manager to join their growing team. You’ll take ownership of a large, fast-moving Plant Department—driving performance, improving systems and ensuring that every crane, telehandler, surveying instrument, fleet vehicle and temporary facility is planned, delivered and utilised to its full potential.
You’ll be the operational heartbeat behind some of Ireland’s biggest construction projects. Your role will span day-to-day logistics right through to commercial decision‑making, supplier negotiation and long-term fleet strategy. You’ll influence major buying decisions, optimise plant usage across multiple sites and ensure the business always gets maximum value from its extensive fleet.
This is a role where you will make an impact—working closely with Site Management, Senior Leadership and Corporate Services to continuously improve how the plant function operates.
Responsibilities:
• Oversee the daily management of the Plant Department
• Lead department meetings and prepare operational & commercial reports
• Drive improvements across systems, processes and supplier performance
• Manage mobilisation/demobilisation of all site plant including cranes, telehandlers, surveying instruments and temporary accommodation
• Coordinate delivery, installation and commissioning of plant across multiple projects
• Plan site-specific plant requirements with project teams
• Manage owned and hired plant to maximise utilisation and cost efficiency
• Oversee repairs, maintenance, downtime and lifecycle planning
• Prepare cost analysis for buy‑vs‑hire and repair‑vs‑replace decisions
• Review fleet performance and prepare disposal and future requirement plans
• Manage subcontractors, negotiate rates and conduct supplier performance reviews
• Support tenders by pricing plant and logistics requirements
• Oversee fleet logistics, fuel cards, insurance, toll tags and RSA compliance
• Support RSA audits and ensure full fleet adherence
Requirements:
• Strong operational background within construction
• Experience managing plant, fleet or equipment operations
• Commercially minded with experience in budgeting and cost analysis
• Skilled in supplier negotiation and subcontractor management
• Comfortable managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
• Good understanding of plant specifications, maintenance and operational standards
