Food Safety & Quality Technical Manager

Rapidly expanding organisation within the fresh produce and FMCG sector is seeking an experienced Food Safety & Quality Technical Manager to lead and develop its Quality Management Systems (QMS). This is a pivotal role for a detail-oriented and proactive professional who is passionate about food safety, regulatory compliance and continuous improvement. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring all products meet the highest standards of safety, legality and quality while supporting business growth and innovation.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and continuously improve the Quality Management System to ensure delivery of safe, legal, and high-quality products
  • Ensure full compliance with relevant food safety regulations and standards including BRCGS, HACCP, and GLOBALG.A.P.
  • Lead the development, implementation, and maintenance of robust food safety and quality systems across the site
  • Monitor and respond proactively to legislative and industry changes, ensuring the business remains fully compliant
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance product quality, consistency, and operational performance
  • Oversee all food safety procedures, policies, and SOPs to ensure best practice is followed at all times
  • Lead internal audits, traceability exercises, and HACCP teams, ensuring audit readiness at all times
  • Manage third-party accreditation processes and coordinate external and customer audits
  • Conduct root cause analysis for quality incidents and implement corrective and preventative actions
  • Develop and track KPIs, using data to drive improvements and inform decision-making
  • Deliver training, coaching, and guidance to cross-functional teams to build food safety awareness and capability
  • Collaborate with NPD teams to ensure new product development is introduced in a controlled and compliant manner
  • Manage supplier approval processes, including supplier audits and ongoing performance monitoring
  • Ensure all product specifications and documentation are accurate, up-to-date, and aligned with customer requirements

 

Requirements:

  • Third-level qualification in Food Science, Commercial Horticulture, or a related discipline
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in food safety, quality, or microbiology within an FMCG environment
  • Strong knowledge of food safety legislation and quality management systems
  • Proven experience managing BRCGS audits and maintaining accreditation standards
  • Excellent leadership and people management skills with the ability to influence across departments
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a focus on continuous improvement
  • High level of computer literacy, including Microsoft Office applications
  • Experience in internal auditing and certification is highly desirable
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and perform effectively under pressure
  • Flexible and adaptable approach to meet the evolving needs of the business
