Buyer & Inventory Controller

Building materials provider who are scaling successfully is seeking an experienced Buyer & Inventory Controller to join their busy and fast-paced supply chain team. This role is ideal for a commercially minded supply chain professional who enjoys balancing purchasing responsibilities with inventory management and operational coordination. You will play a key role in ensuring product availability, maintaining optimal stock levels, and supporting supplier relationships across a broad range of building materials and construction-related products.

The position requires strong analytical ability, excellent attention to detail, and the confidence to work closely with suppliers, warehouse teams and internal stakeholders to ensure smooth product flow and stock accuracy. Candidates with previous experience in building materials, construction supplies, hardware or related distribution environments will be particularly well suited to this role.

Responsibilities

  • Manage purchasing activity across a designated range of building materials and associated products
  • Monitor stock levels and forecast demand to ensure optimum inventory availability
  • Raise purchase orders and manage supplier delivery schedules
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with suppliers and key stakeholders
  • Negotiate pricing, lead times and supply agreements where required
  • Analyse inventory performance and identify opportunities to reduce excess or slow-moving stock
  • Coordinate closely with warehouse and operations teams to ensure accurate stock control
  • Investigate and resolve stock discrepancies and supplier invoice queries
  • Maintain accurate procurement and inventory records within ERP and stock management systems
  • Track supplier performance against KPIs including service, quality and delivery
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives across procurement and inventory processes
  • Produce regular inventory and purchasing reports for management review
  • Assist with product range reviews and stock rationalisation projects
  • Ensure compliance with company purchasing procedures and health & safety standards

Requirements

  • Previous experience in a Buyer, Inventory Controller, Stock Controller, or Supply Chain role
  • Experience working within building materials, construction products, hardware, merchanting, or related sectors preferred
  • Strong understanding of inventory management and purchasing processes
  • Excellent organisational and problem-solving skills
  • Strong commercial awareness and negotiation ability
  • Experience using ERP or stock management systems
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills desirable
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Analytical mindset with strong attention to detail
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of a team
