Warehouse & Yard Operative
Warehouse & Yard Operative needed for industrial materials supplier based in Palmerstown. This is a hands-on role within a small, experienced team, supporting day-to-day operations across both the warehouse and yard in a busy and efficiently run environment. A valid manual handling certificate and Counterbalance forklift licence are required for this position.
The company supplies materials to customers nationwide and operates from a structured warehouse and yard facility. This position plays a vital role in ensuring goods are received, stored, handled/dispatched accurately and efficiently, with a strong emphasis on safety.
You will be responsible for manual handling, organising & storing incoming stock, picking customer orders, loading and unloading materials using forklift equipment. You will work across both indoor and outdoor areas, supporting yard operations as required.
You will work closely with a team of 4–5 colleagues, report directly to management and contribute to the smooth running of daily operations.
Experience in a similar environment, such as a builders’ merchants or construction/site-based role, would be highly beneficial, along with experience using equipment such as band saws or operating a side loader forklift.
Responsibilities:
- Carry out manual handling of materials, including steel and heavy goods
- Receive, check and store incoming stock in the correct locations
- Pick and prepare customer orders accurately
- Load and unload vehicles using Counterbalance forklift equipment
- Support both warehouse and yard operations, including outdoor work
- Operate equipment such as band saws where required
- Assist with handling long or bulky materials, including use of side loader forklifts (if applicable)
- Keep the warehouse and yard organised, clean and safe
- Work closely with team members to ensure smooth daily operations
- Follow all health and safety procedures at all times
Requirements:
- Valid manual handling certificate
- Valid Counterbalance forklift licence (in date)
- Previous experience in a warehouse and/or yard environment
- Experience working with steel, building materials, or in a builders’ merchants environment (advantageous)
- Experience on construction sites or similar hands-on roles (beneficial)
- Familiarity with equipment such as band saws or side loader forklifts (desirable)
- Good understanding of health and safety procedures, particularly around heavy materials
- Physically fit and comfortable with manual handling
- Reliable, punctual and able to work as part of a small team
- Strong attention to detail and a good work ethic
