3PL Operations Assistant Manager
Thriving third-party logistics company is seeking an experienced and driven 3PL Assistant Operations Manager to support and optimise its busy transport and logistics operations. This is a pivotal role for a logistics professional with a solid background in road freight and a strong grasp of Ireland’s geography, particularly in managing diverse vehicle fleets and high-volume operations.
Operating from a dynamic logistics hub, you will play a key role in coordinating daily operations, ensuring efficient scheduling and routing of transport. The role also involves managing client relationships, overseeing warehouse operations process improvement and ensuring all vehicles are roadworthy and used efficiently.
Responsibilities:
- Assist the Operations Manager in the day-to-day running of a fast-paced 3PL transport office.
- Oversee routing and scheduling for a varied fleet, including artics, rigids, and vans, ensuring compliance with road freight regulations.
- Liaise with clients, drivers, and warehouse staff to ensure delivery standards are met and service levels are maintained.
- Monitor fleet performance, maintenance schedules and driver availability to maximise operational efficiency.
- Provide real-time problem solving and operational decision-making to address delivery issues or delays.
- Support implementation of transport strategies to reduce cost and improve service delivery.
- Ensure all transport activities adhere to health and safety regulations and legal compliance standards.
- Maintain accurate records of vehicle usage, delivery schedules and incident reports.
- Train and mentor junior team members and new staff on operational procedures.
- Support in analysing transport data and generating reports to senior management.
Requirements:
- Proven experience working in a high-volume logistics or transport office, within a 3PL environment.
- In-depth knowledge of Ireland’s road network and geography, particularly for routing commercial vehicles.
- Strong experience managing road freight operations, including articulated lorries, rigids, and small commercial vans.
- Excellent understanding of driver hours, tachograph regulations, and road transport compliance..
- Demonstrated ability to work under pressure, with excellent organisational and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in transport management systems and Microsoft Office applications.
- Excellent communication skills for dealing with clients, drivers, and internal teams.
- A full, clean driving licence is essential.
